Minolta Dimage e201

Hardware That Doesn't Work with Linux

The Minolta Dimage e201 should be USB Mass Storage says http://www.teaser.fr/~hfiguiere/linux/digicam.html but it is’nt a correct implementation I think.

It only shows the partition itself (so, not the partition table), but that trick seems to give some problems:

Bopen:/mnt/usb/dcim# ls
? ??@?d?@.n!? 2??@l??@ h??@!.??? p??@@l?@.?p? ????????.?o? ??.?s?

Also, when transferring a picture, there are lines of random-colored pixels in it. The next time I transfer the same picture the lines are at other places. Sometimes I just got “i/o error”.

I bought a Compact Flash reader and with that everything works fine (also, the partition table is right, so I have to use /dev/sda1 in stead of /dev/sda now).

update: 2006-02-26: tested with kernel 2.6.12, still does not work: when transfering a file, you don’t always get the whole file and the kernel says:

sda: Current: sense key: No Sense
Additional sense: No additional sense information
